Parish Councils in the United Kingdom came into being in 1894 and Langham Parish Council was formed at that time. The first Chairman was Mr. W.H. Boreham who held office until 1901; and the first Clerk was Mr. W. Griffiths who was in office until 1905.
The Parish Council consists of seven members who are:
Mrs E.A. Schofield (Chairman) Mr W.P. Durlacher (Vice Chairman) Mr A. Ellis Mr S. Gallup Mr J.C. Garnett (Borough Councillor for Dedham and Langham) Mr A.M. Stacey Mr R. Watson
The Clerk of the Council is Mr David Winter. Phone 01206 322301
Meetings are held monthly, with the exception of August and December. Members of the Council also sit on sub committees with responsibilities for the different areas of village life.
Langham, together with other outlying villages was brought into the Borough of Colchester when Local Government re-organisation took place in 1974, and is now represented by the same Borough Councillor as Dedham.
The population of Langham is just over 1,000, with an electorate of just over 800 and elections for the Parish Council are held every four years.
If you have concerns that you feel that the Parish Council should address, please send a message.
