THE PARSONAGE HOUSE

old.jpg (7232 bytes) Contrary to popular belief the charming 17th century house to the north of the churchyard was never the parsonage. This was until recent years some way to the south on a separate manor which in 1610 consisted of 66 acres of glebe and 23 acres of copyhold land. In 1993 the remnant of a medieval hall which had almost certainly been the rectory house was discovered at Glebe Farm.
A spacious rectory (known in recent times as Glebe House) built in the early years of the 19th century was exchanged in 1953 for a smaller one on Gun Hill. mid.jpg (8665 bytes)
