In 2001 the Parish Council who are the freeholders of the Recreation Ground undertook a survey of the people of Langham to find out whether Tennis Courts would be used beneficially in the village. The result was not only in favour but other sports were also identified as being potentially used. Both the local schools also indicated their support for the extensive use of courts during term time. The Langham Tennis Club was therefore set up on behalf of the Parish Council Recreation Ground Committee to progress tennis etc. and put a project together to build the courts: 1 tennis court and 1 multi-purpose (including tennis) court were agreed.

ESSEX LTA SPRING/SUMMER JUNIOR  GRAND PRIX

Mark Kleingeld writes “ Langham TC again hosted a week long series of events from 19th to 23rd July.

The County tournaments hosted this year were the best attended and most successful held to date. Special thanks to Jeff Adams, Headmaster of Langham Primary School, for allowing so many of his pupils to take part in these tounaments during school time.

Thanks also to Mat Hammond, Ed and Alice Rudge, for their help in umpiring matches.

Congratulations to Annabel Wilbraham for winning the Girls’ Red tournament.

LANGHAM TC MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Mark Kleingeld writes:

‘Congratulations to Ed and Alice Rudge for winning the Men’s and Ladies Singles respectively.

In the Men’s Singles Ed and Stuart Rudge had an easy passage through the draw, and contested an epic final, with Ed the narrow winner.

Alice Rudge was just too nimble for her mother Jacqui in the Women’s Final.

The rest of us will need to work a little harder to break up the current Rudge supremacy.’

The Club propose to hold the Langham TC Men’s and Ladies Doubles Championships in the second half of August. If you wish to take part please contact Stuart or Mark. If you are looking for a partner, that can be arranged.

If you have any information which you would like enclosed in the next newsletter, please let me know on 01206 - 272031.

Letter to members July 27 2010

Dear member

Club membership subscriptions fall due for payment on 1 August 2010.  We have frozen membership fees for a further year and therefore the following amounts will be due at that time:

Adult Membership:  £30

Junior Membership: £20

Family Membership: £50

I have made arrangements this year to allow the payment of membership subs by internet or telephone banking as an alternative to payment by cheque.   If you would like to pay your fees this way the club account details are as set out below:

Account name:  Langham Tennis Club

Account number: 50800457

Sort code: 20-22-67

It would be helpful if you could e-mail me at sellis@uk.ey.com or call me on 01206 271696 to let me know if you have made your payment this way.   I will then be able to track the Club’s receipt of the payment.

It is also now possible for you to set up an annual standing order to the Club using the account information above.  It would help enormously with the administration of the Club if members would agree to set up payments by standing order and as an incentive any member doing so will be protected from any future membership fee increases for at least the next two years (membership fees 2010 and 2011).  You can set up a standing order via your internet or telephone banking service or contact me as above and I will provide you with a form to complete and hand to your bank.  Again please can you drop me a line or call me to let me know if you have set this up.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call me on 01206 271696.

Many thanks

Yours faithfully

ESSEX LTA SPRING/SUMMER CHAMPIONS GRAND PRIX

Mark Kleingeld writes “ Langham TC again hosted a week long series of events from 27th to 31st July. The following results are particularly noteworthy:

CONGRATULATIONS to Angus Stanton, who was Runner-up in the Mini Red (8 & Under) category.

CONGRATULATIONS to Elizabeth Skells, who won the Mini Orange (9 & Under) category. Elizabeth beat competitors from as far afield as Rochford, Brentwood, and Little Baddow. She played five round robin matches followed by a knockout tournament in just four hours. She exhibited a steely determination throughout. Little surprise then, that her other speciality is the Triathlon!

CONGRATULATIONS to Alice Rudge - another home-grown winner in the 14 & Under category, who turned in some gritty performances of her own.

All in all, a very worthwhile series of events. To be recommended to our aspiring young players.”

Lastly, it has been brought to my attention that adults have been seen, recorded on camera no less, climbing over the fence into the tennis courts.

In the interests of health and safety would they please use the gate.

If you have any information which you would like enclosed in the next newsletter, please let me know on 01206 - 272031.

The alarm will either be by word of mouth or by the sound of the smoke or heat detectors which have been placed throughout the building.
