Boxted Airfield Museum Project
To erect two World War Two style Nissen Huts on Langham Lodge Farm (part of the old airfield site).
One Nissen Hut will be the visitor centre, with toilets, refreshment facilities, library and a meeting room.
The second hut will be the actual museum, displaying photographs, maps, memorabilia. and telling the story of -
"the most important U.S. fighter base in the U.K. during World War Two" Roger Freeman
Buy a Building Block for the Museum!
Our latest fund-raising idea to help meet the cost of not only erecting the two Nissen Huts for the Museum, but also to help defray the cost of establishing the services required, along with providing the necessary cabinets and display material, is to ask members of the public to buy a building block for £20.
It is proposed that the whole projected cost of the museum development be divided into £20 blocks, so people may purchase one or more blocks (there is no limit!). It is hoped that once the museum is established a 'Roll of Honour' board would be placed inside, with the names of all those people that had donated to the programme. Naturally, the wishes of anyone who wishes to donate anonymously would be strictly respected.
'We believe this heritage is worth preserving'
The museum will tell the story of the airfield not just wartime but up to the present day. We have been given permission to use two exclusive sets of private photographs that are not on display any where else in the U.K., these collections amount to 300 personal photos some in colour (very rare in WW2)
Also on display will be artefacts from the airfield and local peoples memories of the airfield in pictures and audio recordings. During opening times we will be we will be showing film of the airfield in action during WW2.
