Up to the start of the 20th century Langham would have been a reasonably self contained community and everyday items could have been bought at the village stores or from the variety of shops in Dedham. However, with the increased accessibility of transport, the reign of large chain stores and the expectation of greater choice, a large amount of trade is sought outside of the village communities.

There are, however, still thriving businesses, including the Community Shop and two schools as well as those listed on the left which provide essential services to the community.
